Runway Report: Max Mara Fall 2017
Color blocking – oh the color blocking! Never has matching your outfit tone-on-tone felt so chic. This season, creative director Ian Griffiths gave us a lesson in the art of ensemble-building.Â
All the elements that Italian power house are famed for were there – smart oversized coats, slung nonchalantly around shoulders, worn over an array of expertly tailored separates.Â
Â
Griffiths took inspiration from Ingrid Bergman and the collection was full of Nordic references, from the clean, grown-up approach to layering to full-length shearling coats with wide lapels and a line of accessories featuring scarves and mittens in a fine knit. Â
Further highlights included a matching Aran knit turtle neck and jacket paired with relaxed slacks in camel, and a long-lined hoodie, made super-chic worn over a skirt and sweater.Â
Â
A few more dramatic notes were there – a hooded red cape came over all Red Riding Hood while all-black crushed velvet suits at the end provided a new take on occasion wear.
