Runway Report: Christian Dior SS19 Couture
In her collection for Dior, designer Maria Grazia Chiuri celebrated the process of haute creation and took inspiration from Elisabetta Orsini?s book, ?Atelier: Places of Thought and Creation,? by creating an all-white showroom-turned-catwalk lined with cotton mannequins.
?Couture is about something hidden. If you go to the atelier, you want to take care of yourself and know that someone will take care of you. We have this big opportunity to work with a different definition of time. Craftsmanship is long; it is a dream for a future,? the designer said backstage.
Models, some wearing berets with veils, hit the runway in an array of form-fitting strapless dresses, floor-length gowns, flowing skirts, and structured two piece suits which included a twist on the famous Dior bar jacket. Gowns switched from chiffon to lace, to scuba and classical silhouettes accentuated the overall elegance, as did the color palette, which was muted with shades of nude, blush, navy, celery, rose and tea.
Striking the ideal balance between femininity and sophistication, this was a collection that started with a classic couture structure and ended with newness and fluidity.
