There is a lot to love about the Modern Farmhouse look that is so popular right now.  You can incorporate this by:

And Cindy's family room with the lighter walls, rough beams and beautiful fabrics is a great example of fresh farmhouse (they are actually surrounded by farms and ranches so it's the real deal...Chief thinks he blends in).  Lisa's stairwell in Northern California has a crisp makeover with a new railing, French pitch forks, Benjamin Moore White Dove paint and natural grass shades from Smith and Noble.

 Indoor plants work well in a modern farmhouse setting (actually most settings).

In fact, I stopped by Wisteria Antiques recently to pick up a fresh plant.

And then yesterday, I noticed all the really good artificial ones at Pottery Barn.
These are perfect for places that don't get natural sunlight, like a powder room or on a book case.
